The richness of the Mayan textile reflects a historical testimony of an ancestral culture; as a vehicle for transmitting an identity through designs and symbols that hold meanings; as a utilitarian object that shows us aspects of everyday life and, finally, as pieces of art with their own aesthetics that require great technique and creativity.
The foundation of our textile bags is the backstrap loom, a technique of pre-Hispanic origin. Originally, women wove rectangular pieces to make huipiles and rebozos but over time, these same handwoven textiles began to be used to create accessories.
Our bags are the result of a creative collaboration with our artisan partners, who are paid according to fair trade principles.
